LUCKY LOTTO # 1

I am currently busy on my second book "Information & Knowledge", but still want to add meaning content to this website without the arduous editing process. So I've started an autobiography to help explain my political views and religious calling. This is the first BLOG snipit of that autobiography and will have no particular order except as pertains to the news of the day or my particular mood. Currently the lottery is grabbing some headlines.

Last weekend the Mega Millions lottery was over $300 million which ampted the lotto fever a bit. For some time Marie and I have discussed plans if we actually won the lottery. Though, for me, plans are a way of life. Even before Marie & I reunited post lottery plans arose with each huge prize. Winning, after all, is not everything since a good number of people who win the money lose in life.

Money must be considered a means to an end and I don't want tons of free money ruining my family and friends. Hence planning ensued. This time I finally mentioned to Marie (my wife) that I would run for Texas governor if we won big. It was no huge surprise as she already knew my basic ambitions. This time it was more of my specific plans and my philisophical musings about the intervention of God.

While running for office has been a basic plan for most of my adult life, age is starting to become an issue. At 52 there's far less time to gain the political clout required to advance under the strictures of the past. Today other avenues would require a meteoric rise. Winning the lottery would be one such avenue, but no luck for us again ... someone won Friday. It will be a while before the prize money reaches a level large enough for me to consider using the winnings to run for political office. Considering the odds, the lottery remains unimportant to my plans. As always I'm working my other avenues.

LUCKY LOTTO # 2

I've had a couple of dreams about winning the lottery which has put me in a good mood waking up, but then reality ultimately sets in. Then again I have found PRECOGNITION in my dream research; so who knows. As an alternative to any 'supernatural' explanation, I have given an inordinate amount of thought into the consequences of winning. Therefore, psychologically speaking, the dreams make sense.

This is not an obsession, but something I do with most everything in my life. I think & plan & consider. I ponder the possibility of devine intervention and then I remember how few of my plans ever came to pass. The unexpected often occurs, but for me it rarely turns out positive. Like most people I believe insurance helps reduce the downside. If you are able to follow my threads ... the real kicker about devine intervention ... odds are meaningless.

From that point of view PLAYING THE ODDS takes on a whole new meaning. Before I married Marie I would only play if the prize rose above $50 million and then only one ticket per week. We now play two tickets on both the Mega Millions and Texas lotteries.

If God wills me to win -- I will win -- well, now we. Thus only one ticket. On the other hand consider the odds ... 50,000,000+ to 1. Any more than one ticket is a waste. Two represents a marital compormise.

For 30 years I have been a blue-collar worker by day and an information specialist by night. Geothechnical and environmental drilling pay the bills while information services bring outlays. As a note of optimism ; the financial gain that has eluded me may arrive --- my greatest desire, however, is to be proven right (s.g. Webster's Dictionary ; Galileo Galilei). Preferably before I am dead (see s.g.).

The Mega-Millions has risen above $500 million bringing with it a collective fever, however slight. Some catch it more than others. Yet even the slightest bit could be considered troublesome. Going back to my previous posts, disregarding the odds remains a separate issue from disregarding the possibilities. Winning that amount of money makes almost anything possible. Assuming you KNOW how to spend it.

Many popular notions attempt maximize the money effect ... 'penny wise and pound foolish', 'a penney saved is a penny earned', 'the best things in life are free', 'you can't take it with you, 'it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God', ect. ect; So while money may not buy love, it can certainly buy happiness. However, unlike love, happiness is fleeting and may require increasing amounts of 'cash' to buy more. Still, that doesn't mean millions. In fact studies have shown that happiness peaks for people who earn around $75,000. By that standard I'm only about 2/3 happy. Although considerably less given the age of my truck and the fact that I rent. My personal finances aside, money can buy happiness and studies have shown that more people make the happier they become ... up to a point.

Once you eliminate the comfort that additional wage gains provide other psychological factors come to the fore to inhibit one's 'stated level' of happiness. Therefore a contingency plan or two could smooth the transition. Such a plan is even more important when it comes to 'pennies from heaven'. Mansions and expensive cars carry a hefty operating cost. Strictly living off the winnings can and has sent people to the 'poor house'.
