The hens are coming home to roost in China as the lockdown in Shanghai has been extended and widespread COVID testing announced in Beijing. Lockdown fear has sparked panic buying in Beijing and other major cities. Now the citizens of China are experiencing the drawbacks of oppressive authoritarianism. Ironically the ZERO COVID policy undertaken by the Communist party was intended to show Superior leadership. Though it was widely understood that China's authoritarian rulers undertook that policy for fear of revolt if the virus got out of control.

The news from China makes me wonder if there's an epidemic of stupid overriding covid. Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine reeks of stupid. As does the long Covid testing lines in beijing. It seems more of a super spreader event then a method of containment. Consequently, the events in China are overtaking that of Ukraine in regards to an apocalypse potential. Economic collapse is quickly taking shape whereas Ukrainian victories spark the defeat of Russia.

The lockdowns in China could crash it's already troubled real estate market sending shock waves through the global banking system. The loss of manufacturing production whisper further inflation in the United States leading to higher interest rates. Rising interest rates will crash the US stock market instituting a negative wealth effect and a sharp recession. The U.S. stock market has been drifting back to reality and could go over the edge.

Thankfully the people of France avoided entry into the stupid column with the election of Macron for president. That's about the only good news of late. So the clock is moving up once again.
