Human history takes time to develop. A series of minor events, for example, can coalesce into something of historical value (sg. women's suffrage, the 60s anti-war movement, the computer revolution). While major events create "instant history" they very rarely stand alone. Each new "event" spawns a number of related events that intertwine with response and reaction.

History often provides the the yardstick to measure the significance of an "event". Deeper assessments require LEAD TIME and LAG TIME calculations to accurately predict the future. In addition there's the election cycle to consider. Due to regular cycles, elections give plenty of lead time to predict changes. Afterwards there's a lag time between the desired change due to policy and the actual change. It's really pretty rare that things go according to plan.

Six years ago I foresaw "Economic Apocalypse 2020" based upon a business cycle lead time coupled with a presidential election. Obviously it was pure speculation on the growing partisan politics. Nevertheless the date also worked well with a century of alternating decades of BOOM-BUST as seen in my 2010 article, "2012 : Our Future at Work TODAY". The (roughly) 20 year cycles noted in that article followed "generation" after "generation". Parents and children repeating success and failures ... BOOM & BUST. Mostly these are cycles of violence that help define the economy. Repeating decade after decade from 1850 to the year 2000.

During the "modern age" adventures in space helped drive the computer revolution and brought about the internet. Since then the BOOM-BUST cycle has shortened to roughly five years. While these numbers have never been exactly even, the Great Recession skewed the cycle even further, but still less than a decade. The extended economic recovery pushed the start date of the latest BOOM to 2015.

With the shortened five year cycles an economic downturn was inevitable even without the coronavirus (covid-19). Finally there's the overlooked LAG TIME of the Trump tariff policy, BREXIT, and the return of sanctions on Iran. For some reason the " money people" with rosy red Trump glasses sent the U.S. stock market to all time highs despite all the warning signs.

These same people would see me as the mad prophet of doom writing about an ECONOMIC APOCALYPSE while the U.S. edged into a major ECONOMIC BOOM. I made the 2020 ECONOMIC APOCALYPSE prediction in 2014. A six year LEAD TIME that may have proved correct. Now it's 2020 !

The U.S. juggernaut had been on the march since 2010 and so has extreme political polarization. The last three years has experienced civil unrest unseen since the 1960s. Then in the final days of 2019, the start of a global threat. A new strain of virus. The Wuhan coronavirus later named COVID-19. Still the legions of greed and stupidity kept smiling as a wave of turbulence swept through the wider world.

Like SARS, MERS, the bird flu & swine flu, the media noted the initial outbreak and covered the containment effort. For two months the media gave the impression of containment. Then as the end of February approached as rash of new cases and the first confirmed case of COVID-19 attributed to "COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION".

Fortunately the virus isn't deadly enough to cause a population crash (apocalypse). The response, on the other hand, has been nothing short of apocalyptic. In order to "SAVE LIVES", politicians have enacted a "run & hide" policy. That will save some today. Two months from now we will be no better prepared for the next wave. Ultimately more lives will be lost as desperation turns to violence.

Famine and destruction are the logical consequences of ECONOMIC SUICIDE ... apocalypse?! ... maybe ... a just a hellish dystopia. So let's all praise Trump! He did not tell us to "run & hide". In fact he did not tell us anything. He didn't tell us mobilize. He didn't tell us to rapidly train new healthcare providers. He didn't tell us to repurpose existing buildings into triage centers. HE DID NOT TELL US TO FIGHT THIS DISEASE "HEAD ON". He did not tell us to protect the vulnerable while the rest of us WORK the problem.

So let's all praise Trump! He DID NOTHING! ... while Rome burned.
