Coming of age most commonly refers to sex, which this movie touches on. But more generally it refers to beCOMING an adult. With that in mind, the pervasive deadpan humor works well in setting up the final scene. However you will have to pay attention to appreciate it.

Steve Buscemi was again type cast as a geek, but to good effect. And while the daughter from "American Beauty" plays the main character, Scarlett Johansson is noted above due to her breadth of work.
