Roughly 18 days ago (Jul.13.24) former president Donald Trump faced an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Given the gravity of the situation it's surprising how quickly the news was overtaken by other events. First, the Republican National Convention. It started just two days later with Trump sporting a bandaged ear. Next the bombshell news of President Biden dropping out of the election (Jul.21.24) and endorsing V.P. Kamala Harris. Less than a week later the Paris games of the 33rd Olympiad and it's controversial opening ceremony (Jul.26.24). Just a day later an attack on the Golan Heights that killed a dozen children. Clearly that couldn't go unanswered leading to news of Israel's retaliatory strikes. Perhaps it's not too surprising that very little information concerning the war in Ukraine has emerged of late.

While the events in Israel and wider the Middle East are of great concern, it's the U.S. presidential election causing the APOCALYPSE CLOCK to rise again. Since the first part of the year social media has been ablaze with references toward revolution and a second civil war. Consequently there's little doubt MAGA NRA hillbillies are organizing in the event of a Trump defeat in November. Oddly, the introduction of Harris as the presumptive presidential candidate highlighted the immediacy of that election. Time perception was also shortened by congressional Democrats widely approving the endorsement of Harris which got her candidacy off to a very quick start.

From a larger perspective, that means the election will no longer pit two geriatric white men against each other. Instead, the election features a woman of color 20 years younger than her opponent and the promise of new voters coming out of the woodworks. Yet even though the new election dynamic tamped down calls for civil war, the road to chaos has already been paved.

If MAGA Republicans win: sham military tribunals will soon follow as will draconian measures towards immigrants. If they lose: gun wielding idiots will start shooting in all directions. Ultimately that could be the saving grace for the United States. At some level human calculus must prevail. It's far easier to rage against an obvious target (sg. Blue vs. Grey / north vs. south; country vs. country). However when no clear difference exists the calculus must change and support will weaken. That will leave only the hardcore MAGA hillbillies to return to their roots and rage against people of color.

It should come as no surprise that any wide spread violence will shut down the U.S. economy and very likely take the world down as well. Furthermore, the violence and chaos could also act as a catalyst for European hardliners to act against immigrants, gays, and other perceived enemies of the state in a similar fashion the Republican hardliners in the United States. Not to mention that any major trouble with Israel could accelerate the timeline. As would an assassination.

I can only imagine the lead up to World War II also felt like this. For now, a republican win seems the least likely scenario for an all out apocalypse. Though certainly the worse dystopian world imaginable. Then again it may just take longer for the apocalypse to coalesce. It's simple to see when you consider the parallel to Venezuela. That South American country fell into chaos when dictator Maduro refused to submit proof of his election win ... as he claimed. Further, it is widely known Trump will NEVER concede defeat just like the South American despot, Maduro. Not only that, he will NEVER acknowledge a loss in the popular vote if he wins in an electoral majority. Still, it's less certain what a "legitimate" Trump win will mean. Though you can certainly bet that 4 years later he will make some attempt to stay in office or install a son into the position.
