2020 A RECORD HURRICANE SEASON - PREDICTED A YEAR IN ADVANCE

On the 3rd of August 2019 I predicted a record or near record hurricane season based on weather observations that summer and a corresponding pattern in 2004-2005. Yesterday morning (10-25-20) the 2020 hurricane season broke the 2005 record with Tropical Storm Zeta.

The hurricane season started early and looked to bury the record early, but a huge dust storm traveling from Africa to the Southeast U.S. put a damper on tropical storm development .... So much for my extreme long range forecast .... no worries since it's those kind of unforeseen events that make weather forecasting so difficult. Ultimately the late June dust storm only shut down tropical development for a short time and it was back to a record setting pace.

While I have gained some satisfaction in making such an extremely long range prediction, it's a sad satisfaction given the massive destruction this season has brought. Next time this pattern arrives we will hopefully be better prepared. Though that seems unlikely if my global warming predictions also begin to pan out.

Some friends who knew of my hurricane prediction asked about this winter. Sadly I had no answer since my daily weather observations ended in early in December 2005 and did not carry into winter. There was, however, record highs in both November and early December only to be followed by record lows two days later. Recently reported shifts in the polar vortex could again bring warmth to the late Fall in the U.S. and cold weather to Europe.

A few years from now my work on "moving weather maps" (see my YouTube video) will produce some advances in ultra long-term forecasting. Nevertheless weather forecasting still remains a hobby including a "recent" foray into hurricane mapping. Psychic intuition says this is going to be an unpleasant wild winter so keep an eye out.

All of this still amounts to little more than "writing practice" given my limited readership and even that has been hampered due to glitches in my website host. Hopefully the glitches will be cured and this "tweet" will be posted soon.
