On thursday March 12th, the initial consumer panic focused on TOILET PAPER, hand sanitizer, and bottled water. That night social media sported numerous jokes and memes. The next morning it was no joke. Entire isles of dried foods like rice and beans were picked clean. By the weekend, the freezer section and ground beef were sold out.

Many stores have shortened business hours to give extra time to restock supplies. There may be some attempt in the near future to end public shopping and move to food delivery only. At the other end of panic shopping is NO SHOPPING. Several retailers have shut their doors. All major league sports have suspended their seasons.

The only word to use is PANIC. All of the drastic measures will flatten the infection curve, but without 100% containment this disease with us until a vaccine becomes available. By then it may be too late.
