HOT WHEELs - FAILURE

By: Todd Wheatley

Two weeks ago my grandson spent a weekend with Marie and I. This gave us an extended time to play "cars and tracks". In anticipation of the extra time I wanted to get an additional BOOSTER SET with high-speed turns and a jump. Instead I purchased a Hot Wheels REMOTE-CONTROL CAR since the booster set was unavailable in stores. As it has been for the past several months .... I took it as a sign to upgrade ..... thinking about it now I think it was a sign from the wrong team :-(

Maybe bad for me, but good for you. After all, that's why I'm here .... to even out the bumps in the road; to make your GUIDED PLAY more rewarding.

The REMOTE-CONTROL CAR costs a little less than twice as much as a BOOSTER. Though over the long run, much less operating cost. Furthermore, "charging" the car was easy and quick, but that's a discussion for another time. Still, I was uncertain how the car would perform on the track and the initial test seem to indicate the remote-control car was too fast even for the high-speed turns. It was a disappointing development given my future plans so I purchased an alternative booster set online. Thankfully it arrived ahead of my grandson's visit.

His insistence on playing "CARs & TRACKs" always affirms that the GUIDED PLAY has value. Not to mention my own pleasure in doing so. Despite the addition of a new BOOSTER, little Remy (5y9mo old) was super excited about the REMOTE-CONTROL CAR. He even did a better job than me of driving it around the track though still frequently "jumping the curves". Unfortunately extra stimulation of running the controller also fired up his hyper-drive. In no time he was chasing cars around the track just like the cats. Basically non-stop mania that wore my patience thin. It's a huge benefit to have a wealth of patience draw upon.

Ultimately I'm at fault for the hyperactivity .... As the "guide" in GUIDED PLAY it's my responsibility to move the "play" away from that kind of behavior. Thankfully Remy provided me with the reminder as I was "breaking down" the track .... Off to the side he was playing quietly with the inexpensive parking garage I had been unable to incorporate. Again, this is something to discuss later, but the recent "track & cars" failure prompted more thought and purchases towards that end. In fact much of my original plans and goals center on incorporating "dioramas" into the track set-ups; much like old-fashioned model railroad sets.
