For the second time this year President Biden ordered airstrikes on iranian-backed militia in Syria and Iraq. In political jargon the airstrikes were "measured and appropriate". In real life it's little more than a cycle of violence that's hard to get away from. Take Afghanistan, for example. When the news broke of U.S. troops leaving Afghanistan the Taliban began retaking parts of the country. The scene was not as dramatic as the last day in Saigon, Vietnam, but similar in effect. Once again U.S. leadership failed to consider history and entered a "backwater" without an exit plan. We stayed 8 more years than Vietnam and after 20 years the U.S. can't claim victory or mission accomplished.

Unlike the unsophisticated Afghans, the Iranians are educated, intelligence, and have technology. Nevertheless bombs are bombs wether you're a stinking hillbilly or a person of reason. Death and destruction can never be "measured". So then the question becomes: who will escalate and why? The answer lies approximately 1200 miles west from the Iranian capital, Tehran. Because of our ties with Israel, war with Iran is the road to apocalypse.

In other news, just as the United States began its march towards normalcy with regard to the global pandemic, Sydney and Brisbane Australia went into full-scale lockdown over the COVID-19 Delta Variant. In Russia, Moscow just recorded its highest death toll of the pandemic also due to the Delta Variant. This could spell major trouble to the energy sector, supply chains, and the global economy. Even though Russia developed its own vaccine (Sputnik 5) their population is only 19% vaccinated. Again, the pandemic will not cause and apocalyptic death toll, but at the rate the virus is mutating, the pandemic will persist and raise the spectre of a global economic collapse.
