A very large WINTER STORM extending over 2000 miles delivered more than half an inch of RAIN last night. Followed by a couple inches of SLEET and now, a blanket of SNOW. Freezing temperatures into the teens have slowed the state to a crawl and sidelined construction crews. Unlike the DFRY SNOW in last year's big winter storm, we now have a thick ICE coverage not seen in a decade.

Thanks to modern technology, this storm was well forecast. So people in our area took advantage of the mild 60 degree weather in the preceeding days to prepare. Grocery stores sported lines as bad or worse than any holiday rush. Some staples like pasta, bread, and toilet paper saw hording similar to 2020 grocery rush. It seems any shock to "the system" spooks the public to its core. Fortunately, the forecast shows temperatures rising above freezing tomorrow. Even warmer temperatures for the extended 10-day forecast.

Noting the favorable forecast in the coming days, I did not buy gasoline to run my generator in case of power failure. We have plenty of firewood in that event and we never lost power last year. More and more, preparing for these highly disruptive events seems like preparing for the apocalypse. Last year's big winter storm, for example, produced power outages across the state and nearly collapsed the grid. Hoping that this will be the last hurray for the winter, I will be looking into getting a second generator before the summer heat arrives and the potential for a grid failure.

Right now I'm stuck inside. Though I did buy some supplies to expand our 2-level CAT TREE as part of my preparation for the travel stopping storm. I'm also going to update the [[ Apocalypse Clock ]] given the announcement of a U.S. troop deployment to Eastern Europe as part of response to Russia's impending invasion of Ukraine. Also given the home bound mostly inside prospect of the DAY(s) OFF it seems appropriate to upgrade the FOOD section of this website.
